Is Diddy Trying to RECREATE Junior Mafia!

Hip Hop Cycle?

Yow from the Upper Cloud!

Grandaddy in the air, got me wantin to talk about old times! If you speak to older people, they’ll tell you that the music industry has a way of recycling itself, and over time I think we’re approaching the chance to see a perfect example of this. Being of a relatively young age 22, I had the opportunity to live through one of the more productive points of Hip Hop, especially on the East Coast. If you’re unfamiliar with who “Puff Daddy” is in relation to our present day “Diddy”/ “Ciroc Obama”, you should stop reading now.

What’s Ciroc Obama up to?! Bad Boy Rewind with Rick Ross and Nicki Minaj?!

Puffy was the people person of the streets. He brought us one of our greatest of all time with Brooklyn’s own “Teflon Don” The Notorious BIG, along with countless other classic acts like Lil Kim, Shyne, Craig Mac, and the list goes on. Before 2000, he was entertaining us with street classics, and afterwards, with a much larger pop-culture fan base to appeal to as well. I’m only so brief in my description of his epic career because we expect you to know this shit already, simply put. So, sitting in Big Red catching up on news in Hip-Hop can bring one to wild assumptions, because from his latest moves I venture to guess that Diddy’s “Ciroc Obama” campaign is gonna’ start off with some kind of reincarnation of Junior Mafia, starring Rick Ross as Biggie Smalls and Nicki Minaj as Lil Kim, as he recently began MANAGING both of them. Needless to say, reinventing Lil Kim in another artist while she just signed a deal with Jay-Z under Roc-Nation is going to have its obstacles. I have to ask if you think Diddy expected Jay to sign Kim. I personally think Jay may have caught him off guard with that one. To add to the suspicion, “Teflon Don” Rick Ross has been picking up a lot of “familiar” ad-libs, along with what I’d call a pretty controversial album name to coincide with his new management. I especially would love to hear the NY opinions on this endeavor, because I’m already feelin’ the vibe won’t be too hot from home! Nicki already had the Lil Kim comparisons coming at her from all angles. So, I’m sure this is nothing she isn’t used to handling. However, from the Upper Cloud its lookin’ like Ciroc Obama is about 2 shiny suits and one slow flowin’ ass rapper away from the 1990s Bad Boy feel I think he’s going for, and to add to it, I think they’re well aware and down to give the shit a shot. I just don’t know how I feel about it. Pass that to da left. Wahh!

I dont think he is trying to recreate junior mafia...puff is always gonna be tryna com eout with new artists to put on his team...and he will always be the "people person of the streets"...i think comin out with new artists gives him something to do...lets be honest...sean john has fell off...so comin out with new people is his way of stayin n the game....besides producing and stuff...

As the time passes, I'm feeling more and more like Diddy is definitely trying to recreate Junior Mafia, or at least something near this. I won't be surprised if Nicki Minaj and Rick Ross are on Interscope with him within the next year.

Rick Ross is a tremendous talent in the music industry (no pun intended), but I really feel that even the notion of comparing his success to that of the late great Biggie Smalls is both unrealistic AND disrespectful. Ross is successful and prosperous in his own capacity and through his own devices. The only way Ross will stack up to Biggie is if Puff lends a hand, an idea that would crash and burn anyway since Puffy's assistance is more inclined to destroy Rick's career instead of improve it. Puffy would be wise to recant that comment and keep lookin for new talent to profit off of via his "Making The Band" shows...

Puffy at the end of the day as we all know is one of the biggest money makers of all time. He sees a vision and he moves on it without any hesitation. But another Junior Mafia? I think not. Hip hop at that point in time was at a standstill where Bad Boy shook up the world with one of the greatest MC's to ever touch a mic. Rick Ross is an impeccable lyricist who has a chance at longevity in the game if he keeps going but HE'S NO BIGGIE. Nicki Minaj with her sexy ass is doing it right now with her unique style and delivery but damn miss you couldn't have Kim in at least one of your videos????? I mean yes you did pay homage from the jump with your first rap appearance stepping on the scene but the world needs to know that you respect the fact that she did pave the way for you. Is this Puff's plan?? Who knows only time will tell..........

i think so but... Its not possible. Ross is still mostly whack. Kim isnt really a factor anymore even though shes still talented. Who the hell is dirty money? Diddy is like 82 years old. Every group he touches dies. All that said i think he is trying to build a team but it will not be good for hip hop. It will be good for his wallet. ~A~

I don't think we can say every group he touches dies. He's accomplished too much and given us too many great years of entertainment to discredit him. You think Ross is wack though?

Nicki is on this hostile takeover movement shit! It comes across to me like she's not afraid of any way that Kim can impact her career, and she wants us to know that shit. However, with J.Cole being a solid artist, Jay might be on a run, might pick a few nice artists in a row, Kim is here for a last minute run, she's about to get busy.

I personally feel like she's jumping into her cross-genre lane a little early. She still had a lot to gain just killin em in the hip hop scene, and providing some life and representation to the female side of it. I feel like she's gonna fall back into the hip hop lane though.
